G. B. Wildlife was launched in early 2008 with the aim of helping to connect people with nature and wildlife. The search facilities hold thousands of wildlife reserves, sites and attractions along with events and details of local groups and the number is increasing daily.
The concept was born through the frustration of spending hours searching the net for wildlife related places to visit and events. Inevitably arriving at the destinations to find many other places to visit and often hearing about events after they occurred. Of course, this doesn't just happen when holidaying, it can seem just as difficult at home! From questioning family, friends and complete strangers it seems that many people are not aware of what is right on their doorstep and most of these were people who were already 'into' the great outdoors, often being members of RSPB, National Trust or Wildlife Trust.
What was needed was a website that would provide a central point for 'what's going on with wildlife where you are' and the rest as they say is history. Of course the initial idea developed and in 2008 an interactive site with a FREE newsletter, friendly forum, competitions and news along with a great variety of articles and campaigns went live on the web. The demand for such a site was evident through not only the requests for sites , events and groups to be listed but also from the high volume of calls and emails offering kind words about the site.
The vision for the site is that it continues to grow, creating a thriving, friendly, on-line community and through it's success that G. B. Wildlife can help fund British wildlife and nature conservation projects. More importantly though it is hoped the site allows people from all walks of life and of all ages to benefit from the wildlife and nature close to them no matter whether they live in a countryside or a city.
