Who We Are
G. B. Wildlife Ltd was set up and is run by myself, Lorna, and my husband Andrew Crystal. We have one son, Jack, who is an active, talkative toddler and keeps us on our toes at all times. Needless to say he is too young to contribute however we do appreciate the fact he has kindly slept through every night for the last couple of months to allow us to get on with this site!
Although we are very enthusiastic about wildlife and conservation issues we openly admit that we sometimes lack the experience or knowledge to back this up and we actively encourage suggestions and feedback via the forum.
Funding
We receive no outside funding and the site has been funded entirely by ourselves and our limited resources. Not only have we self-funded progress to date, the time demands to get the site up and running also meant that I left my job to commit to this on a full time basis (eeek!!)
Obviously we hope that the site will generate enough cash flow to pay at least one wage as at present neither of us is taking a wage from this business (Andrew is still also in full time employment) and we are both working long hours on it. In the longer term we hope that once we have covered costs and wages we can donate and invest funds into a host of wildlife/ nature and conservation projects.
To clarify this, as we are sure it will arise, yes we are aiming to make money from this site. However feel it is necessary to point out that most charities and organisations have paid staff, and unfortunately, we are not in a position where we can afford to be any different. Additionally, we are optimistic that we will be able to put money back into wildlife/ conservation projects in the future.
Our Vision
Initially our vision was to create a search facility that contains a high percentage of all the wildlife/ nature attractions, events and local wildlife/ conservation groups within Great Britain. This remains our principle goal, however as with all best laid plans, we ran into a few problems. Selling an idea to people when they can not see the finished product is never easy and so we are very grateful to the RSPB and National Trust for their support in this area. Now that the site is live we will be adding new attractions, events and groups to the search facilities on a regular basis so please keep checking back.
Our vision for the site has evolved into creating the ideal space for a thriving online community to form. We want the site to appeal to anyone with an interest in wildlife, nature or conservation not matter how knowledgeable they are, and hope it can be a place where people can expand and impart their knowledge, develop new interests and nurture new friendships. We hope that you enjoy the articles and features and become a part of our community in the forum. We look forward to getting to know you.
Thank You
We are incredibly grateful to all the people who have helped us get the site to where it is today, but we would like to give special thanks to photographer Laurie Campbell, David Beeson and the team at DesignWeb.
