The RSPB and Forestry Commission field teaching scheme at Top Lodge, Fineshade Woods is top of the nation’s class.
It has been awarded one of England’s first quality badges for learning outside the classroom.
The badge from The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom tells teachers this is one of the best outdoor classrooms with some of the finest teaching staff.
Youngsters at Top Lodge search for minibeasts, dress up as red kites, learn about food chains and explore woodlands.
Schools come from seven local authorities across the East Midlands.
Justine Overton, RSPB field teacher said: “We are blown away to be recognised for giving children the best possible outdoor education.
“Imagine the joy of seeing youngsters’ eyes light up when they see or feel nature for the first time – it changes their lives.”
Kevin Stannard, Forestry Commission Director said: “We’re delighted to work with the RSPB to deliver such high quality and fun education. Top Lodge is simply the best classroom any child and teacher could hope for.”
