RSPB Lake Vyrnwy farm in mid Wales is alive with lambing activity over the next few weeks – as it delivers hundreds of lambs and opens it doors to visitors.
If you’ve watched Lambing Live on BBC2 recently you’ll know what we’re talking about, the new series presented by Kate Humble and Adam Henson was broadcast live form a sheep farm in Wales and captured amazing life and death dramas as they happened.
The 11,500 acre farm at RSPB Lake Vyrnwy is the largest organic farm in England and Wales, and is home to 3,100 breeding ewes and 120 Welsh Black cattle. Every spring the farm opens it gates to paying visitors, giving them a taster of the work involved with new born lambs.
Janet Evans runs the farm with her husband Gwynfor, she said: “Last year we had over 200 visitors coming to see us here on the farm, most people were amazed at the work involved when it comes to lambing, but the children love it”
The farm will be open to the public on 3, 5, 7 and 11 April, all events start at 1.30pm at the RSPB Shop. Please book your space now by calling 01691 870278, or e-mail vyrnwy@rspb.org.uk
The reserve offers numerous activities all year round, events coming up include a Healthy Hearty Walk on Good Friday, Easter Egg Hunt for all the family on Easter Sunday, Den building and a visit to the spectacular Blanket Bog. Visit the website for more information www.rspb.org.uk/lakevyrnwy
