A good while ago now I promised to put some photos on here showing our garden as it is now so that you can see the progress we make in transforming it for wildlife. Due to been extremely busy I have only just had the chance so please accept my apologies for this.
We have managed to get out in the garden for a couple of hours a few times a week and have so far removed all the overgrown heather from one rockery. As we suspected we will have to reposition all the rocks and re-condition the soil.
Due to limited funds we will be concentrating on one area at a time and not removing any more plants until we can replace them. The plan (which is very likely to change
) is to make the patio a scented garden with light pinks and purples and white colours. There is already a honeysuckle that borders next door and we are going to put trellising around the patio doors and train the honeysuckle over it. We will add containers of lavender and another blueberry plant (making 3 in total). A large container will be home to a herb garden and there will be several other smaller containers but we haven't decided what to fill these with yet - any suggestions are welcome - please post in our forum.
The middle tier will become a cottage garden with a bench against the left hand fence. The holly, camellia and lilac will all be left in the garden but once the birds have finished nesting the holly and Camellia need pruning as they are getting out of control. We will be adding a plum tree to the right hand side next to the lilac.

The furthest tier from the house will become the true wildlife garden. In winter we are going to 'upgrade' our baby bath pond to a much larger one. The bed on the left hand side will be where the pond is situated and the bed opposite will be made into a bog garden.
